HEADS UP EVERYONE!! On Wednesday, April 1 (no fooling) the Oregon House Rules Committee is scheduled to have a public hearing to consider MTA-Oregon's HJM 4 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 50 of the Capital Building in Salem!! This bill applies to Congress for an Article V Constitutional convention for the purpose of passing a Constitutional amendment consistent with the principles that corporations are not people and money is not speech. Go to https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Documents/MeasureDocument/HJM4/Introduced to read the measure. Please contact the Rules Committee members ASAP (https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Ccommittees/HRULES/Overview) to let them know if you support this legislation! Also, if you can do so, please come to the hearing to provide visible support, and possibly testfy. If you are so moved and haven't testified before, it is important to go to https://oregonlegislature.gov and click on "Citizen Engagement" tab to find instructions. You can provide written testimony as well by emailing it to lro.exhibits [at] state.or.us, preferably in a pdf format.
Also to be considered at the April 1 hearing is a another bill that applies for a Constitutional convention as well (HJM 2), and seems to be for a similar purpose. However, its language is very weak and fairly open to interpretation. It is sponsored by Wolf PAC, which is working with MTA in Massachusetts. However, their Oregon lobbyist has so far been unwilling to compromise with Oregon MTA to combine the two bills in any way. We hope to see you MTA Oregonians on April 1, and thank you very much for whatever support you can give!
