Action Update: SF1082/SF3342 and HF 2139

March 15, 2018

We the People Dispatch

Your Actions Resulted in More Cosponsors

For the first time since the We the People bill was introduced in 2013, there is a clone We the People bill in the Minnesota Senate.  The maximum number of cosponsors in the state senate is five and this was reached soon after you all began to ask your senators and representatives to become cosponsors of SF 1082 and HF 2139.

The SF 1082 cosponsors are: Marty, Clausen, Carlson, Cwodzinski and Wiklund.  Constituents – Please thank them.

A clone bill (SF 3342) was introduced by Senator Hawj and immediately cosponsored by Senator Matt Klein.  Let’s see if we can get 3 more cosponsors for this bill.

Contact Your State Senator Again

If you contacted your senator but that public servant is still not a cosponsor, please call again to explain that there is now a clone of Senator Marty’s bill.

You might say something like –

Dear Senator [name],

As one of your constituents who agrees with Move to Amend’s proposed US Constitutional amendment, I contacted you [last week] to ask you to become a cosponsor of SF 1082.  Having reached the maximum number of sponsors a clone bill has been introduced.  Please become a cosponsor of SF 3342 and contact Senator John Marty.

Be part of the process to amend the U.S. Constitution to make clear that corporations and other artificial entities do not have Constitutional rights and that money is not speech and campaign spending should be through regulation.

Thank you for your attention to this crucial aspect of our democracy.

Sincerely,
[your name and address]

If you are not comfortable making a second request, ask a friend or relative.

House Bill Cosponsors; 26 More Needed

It is important to keep these two bills active, even in a legislative session when the prospects for progress may be slim, so that our legislature knows we are paying attention to these bills and will ask that they be introduced—until they are passed.

HF2139 cosponsors are:  Dehn, Thissen, Lee, Mariani, Liebling, Pinto, Ecklund, Davnie, Olson.  The limit is 35 cosponsors so we have 26 more to go as of March 14.  Check the link before contacting you representative as several have been added since you started making the ask.

Let’s do it.  For those not comfortable making a second request, ask a friend or relative.  The more people we can get to apply pressure the more successful we will be.  If you ask a friend or relative also ask them to go to movetoamend.org and sign the petition.

Dear Representative [name],

As one of your constituents who agrees with Move to Amend’s proposed US Constitutional amendment, I thank you if you have supported a previous version of the Minnesota legislation in support of amending the U.S. Constitution to make clear that corporations and other artificial entities do not have Constitutional rights and that money is not speech and campaign spending should be through regulation.

Please become a co-sponsor of [SF1082  or HF2139] this session.

Thank you for your attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,
[your name and address]

Another option is to request a meeting with them.  Gather several people together and make your ask.  If you need more info go to https://movetoamend.org/why-abolish-all-corporate-constitutional-rights.  Browse the site as there is much to learn.
