Cleveland Hts. Move to Amend Launches Citizen Initiative Calling for an End to Corporate Personhood and Money as Speech
Cleveland Heights Move to Amend members collected a couple of hundred signatures on election day on a citizens petition which calls on Congress to pass a Constitutional Amendment declaring:
- Only human beings, not corporations, are legal persons with Constitutional rights, and
- Money is not equivalent to speech, and therefore, regulating political contributions and spending does not equate to limiting political speech.
The goal is to collect 3400 valid signatures by next summer to get the measure on the ballot. Text of the citizens initiative is below. Can you collect signatures from neighbors or friends or from people where you work, attend church, or participate in a group? The only requirements are that individuals must be registered voters in Cleveland Heights.
