Past Move to Amend Action Campaigns

October Call Your Congressman!

Our Move to Amend Leaders will be in DC meeting with our congressmen and asking them to take action to support our version of the 28th Amendment.  Please give them a call.  If you already make call on other issues, add this to them as our amendment will help disolve barriers to making progress on our top issue.

Ask your representative to sponsor or support HJR 48.  Ask your Senators to introduce a companion bill to HJR 48.

Constitution Day 2017

Each year, educational institutions which receive federal funding must provide programming on the US Constitution around September 17th, Constitution Day. This provides Move to Amend an opportunity to get into schools and make connections with educators, administrators, and students. We encourage Move to Amend supporters and affiliates to reach out to their contacts in schools as well as make new contacts with local schools and offer to provide materials or present material to students yourself!

What is Pledge To Amend?

Well...We're glad you asked!

In our Pledge To Amend campaign, we will be joining the 50+ other affiliates across the U.S. in trying to secure a pledge from each and every candidate.  Primarily from those running for state and local office, and secondarily from those running for federal office.

ACTION ALERT: Stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership

Although numerous organizations and individuals numbering in the hundreds of thousands have expressed their opposition to the TPP, a deal was reached on October 5 and the full details released on November 5.

Negotiated in secret among trade representatives for 12 nations and over 500 multinational corporations, this agreement will affect over 40% of the global economy -- yet is completely removed from any semblance of a democratic process.

Once the formalities are achieved, and the president announces he will sign, the deal becomes public and Congress has 60 days to vote it up or down—no amendments. Washington insiders believe the earliest the deal can move forward is April 2016.

Tell your members of Congress to vote NO on the Trans-Pacific Partnership!

Oldest 'Person' in the World Turns 129!

Did you know that May 10, 2015 marks the 129th birthday of corporate persons?

That’s right—more than a century before Citizens United v. FEC, the Supreme Court first recognized corporations as people with Constitutional rights in Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad on May 10, 1886. Move to Amend is marking the occasion with some light-hearted fun to drive home the point that corporations are not people.

When the Supreme Court decided for corporations in the Citizens United v. FEC case, it elevated knowledge of the doctrine of "corporate personhood" to new heights. Hundreds of thousands of people now know what those words mean.

But as awful as Citizens United is, corporate personhood wasn't created with that case. Corporate Personhood was concocted by corporate lawyers 127 years ago.

Resolutions Week: Resolve to Amend! June 11-15

Organize in Your Home Town for a Constitutional Amendment to Overturn Citizens United and Limit Campaign Contributions and Corporate Power

Since the Move to Amend coalition launched in 2010, our grassroots activists have successfully passed dozens of community resolutions declaring public support for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United v. FEC by establishing that a corporation is not a person, and money is not speech!

Corporate Personhood: 126 Years is Enough!

May 2012 marks the 126th anniversary of the Supreme Court granting corporations the rights of human beings. That’s right, Corporate Personhood didn’t begin with Citizens United!

In 1886 the U.S. Supreme Court declared that under the law corporations were “persons” and gave them the same rights as human beings. But a corporation exists only on paper. It is simply a legal creation that allows a group of people to engage in activities as a single entity.

March of the Monahans

On May 16, 2010 democracy activists Robin and the late Laird Monahan dipped hands and feet in the Pacific, and set out on foot from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Their goals: reach the Lincoln Memorial in Washington by mid October, and, most importantly, build grassroots awareness of the need to amend the Constitution to end corporate personhood along the way.
