DACMA's Democracy Amendment Question Will Be on the November Ballot

July 17, 2012

Last week we gained a victory in two western Senate districts - Downing’s and Rosenberg’s - by gathering enough certified signatures to get our public policy question on the November ballot!

The wording will be as follows:

Shall the state senator from this district be instructed to vote in favor of a resolution calling upon Congress to propse an amendment to the U.S. Constitution affirming that 1) corporations are not entitled to the constitutional rights of human beings, and 2) both Congress and the States may place limits on political contributions and political spending?

Alas, we did not collect enough signatures in the other 4 Districts west of Worcester. To those who labored long and hard in Belchertown, Granby, Springfield, Chicopee, Longmeadow, Barre, and elsewhere, thank you. We will count names and let the Senators and Representatives know that voter support is deep and wide for a Constitutional Amendment.

Thank you all for your hard work. Now comes the fun part, educating ourselves and the public, and winning the hearts and votes of the people in these districts before November.
