December 2016 Webinar: Action In A Box!

Want to get creative? Want to host an action but not quite sure where to start? We’ve got an idea! Move to Amend is collaborating with our friends at Backbone Campaign to bring you “Action In A Box”!

“Action In A Box” provides materials and guidance for bringing creative action for the 28th amendment to your community. Much of the action design and imagery creation has been taken care of, now you just have to do the organizing and recruiting to mobilize them!

Receive a large image of the 28th amendment, a light display, and instructions in the mail. Use the images for an action in your community, then ship them to the next group to use!

Join our Take Action Webinar to learn more about this project and ask questions!

Move to Amend Grassroots Campaign News...

In California, over 4.2 million voters (52%) approved Proposition 59 calling for the congressional delegation from the largest state in the country to propose and ratify a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and preceding court cases, allowing the full regulation of campaign spending and make clear corporations do not have the same constitutional rights as human beings.

November's ballot win was 2 years in the making, after California's Supreme Court erroneously removed its predecessor (Proposition 49) from the 2014 ballot at the request of a private non-profit corporation. After the Court reversed its decision, it was passed again through the state legislature and approved by Gov. Jerry Brown in June.

➤➤ We congratulate California Move to Amend affiliate volunteers and our coalition partners who pulled out all the stops in a short amount of time to achieve this victory! THANK YOU!!

In Ohio, voters in the Greater Cleveland area approved two local ballot resolutions calling for an end to corporate constitutional rights and money equals speech. Shakers Heights overwhelmingly passed Issue 95 by over 81%, while South Euclid approved Issue 102 by 77%. Voters in Newark came very close to passing their local resolution, but fell short at 45% of the vote. Excellent work was still accomplished and we're confident our local volunteers will learn from this loss and proceed forward with confidence into the next election cycle!

➤➤ It is with pride and joy in our hearts, we thank Ohio Move to Amend affiliate volunteers for their fantastic work!!

In Washington, voters passedInitiative 735 by a wide margin of 64%, becoming the 18th state calling for an amendment to make clear constitutional rights belong to individuals, not corporations, and that money is not constitutionally-protected free speech.for such an amendment. Over 1.2 million voters approved the measure, joining California and nearly 2 dozen communities in Wisconsin and Ohio to pass similar ballot initiatives.

The WAmend coalition has led a tireless campaign for more than 3 years to achieve their ballot win. Last December, over 1200 volunteers gathered over 336,000 petition signatures to place I-735 on the November ballot. The initiative has received support from many local and national organizations including the Sierra Club, labor unions and many pro democracy groups. Many members of the state legislature, congressional delegation and other public officials have also voiced their support, including Governor Jay Inslee.

➤➤ We are truly grateful to our Move to Amend affiliate volunteers and our partners in WAmend for their tremendous work put in over the last 3 years!!

In Wisconsin, volunteers passed measures in 18 communities, including many conservative towns. All referenda passed with overwhelming majorities: Rock County (86%), Reedsburg (86%), Manitowoc (81%), Delafield (79%), Neshkoro (88%), New Glarus (88%), Spring Valley (91%), Osceola (86%), Mt. Horeb (84%), Monticello (86%), Clayton (86%) and the towns of New Glarus (83%), Harris (65%), Springdale (86%), Decatur (89%), Mount Pleasant (84%), Cadiz (87%) and Lake Tomahawk (91%).

Ninety-seven Wisconsin communities have now called for the "We the People" amendment through these resolutions, comprising over 40% of Wisconsin residents -- or roughly 2.4 million people.

➤➤  BIG gratitude to all Wisconsin volunteers who made these victories possible!
