In 2014, Mentor voters passed, with a 70% affirmative vote, Issue 5 in support of a 28th Constitutional Amendment clearly stating that: 1. Only human beings, not artificially created entities, have Constitutional rights; and 2. That money is not the equivalent of speech and can be regulated in our elections.
The passage of Issue 5 created a city ordinance that established biennial public hearings “to examine the money in politics and it's impact on our Democracy."
Mentor residents are urged to provide comments regarding these matters for up to 5 minutes per person. Following the hearing the City will send letters to our state and federal legislators informing them that the Citizens of Mentor are in favor of a 28th Constitutional Amendment. Whether you wish to speak or just listen, please plan to attend.
It's your democracy!
