We will be strategizing for the “WE THE PEOPLE LISTEN” Campaign, part of a nationwide Campaign to Knock-on-Doors and Get Perspectives on Corporate Power from our neighbors.
The Winona Human Rights commission would like to announce our endorsement of the Move to Amend (MTA) Coalition and ask our fellow citizens to learn about MTA and add themselves or their organizations as endorsers as well. Please visit www.movetoamend.org to learn more and add your support. We also remain concerned about Winona’s ongoing relationship with Wells Fargo as a local example of financial interests overriding concern for human rights.
MEETING WITH SEN KLOBUCHAR STAFF, SEPT 7th
Virgie arranged a meeting time with Klobuchar staffer Nicholas Kimball at 11:00 on Sept 7 in K's Mpls office 1200 Washington Ave. He is K's senior policy advisor and council.
Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, National Director of Move To Amend, one of the main convention sponsors, proclaimed that the moral argument for overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision is what will bring people together to demand a 28th Amendment. Move To Amend supports the We the People Amendment that states money is not speech and corporations are not people.
After Donald Trump ascended to the presidency, despite losing the popular vote by an astounding margin, there just wasn't a lot of cheering to be heard in Whoville. Trump is like The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, with the notable exception that Trump doesn't have a heart, not even one ten sizes too small.
Our mission is to establish authentic, participatory democracy for all people, not corporations. Our first goal is to help build a diverse democracy movement capable of passing the We the People Amendment. The amendment abolishes corporate constitutional rights (corporate personhood) and money as free political speech.
If you're new to Move to Amend, or joining the growing resistance; if you want to do more, but don't know where to start, or if your #1 issue just hit a brick wall built by the corporatized state, we invite you to volunteer with Move to Amend, the Campaign to Legalize Democracy!
There’s no way that the wealthy 1% that our government serves can continue to oppress us if we all stand in solidarity against them. Attending the Democracy Convention in Minneapolis is a crucial piece to attaining a government that works to preserve the freedom and well-being of “We the People.” The conferences and workshops that we will host will impact hundreds.
This August we'll be heading to Minneapolis to take part in the Democracy Convention. This five day event is an opportunity for us to bring in like-minded individuals ready to join the movement and brainstorm real solutions for creating a government that works for its people and not only its corporations.
Help us raise the $25,000 we need to organize the Democratizing the Constitution Conference at the Democracy Convention. Since starting this campaign, we've raised about $1000. We need to raise $24,000 more by July 20.
