Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, National Director of Move To Amend, one of the main convention sponsors, proclaimed that the moral argument for overturning the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision is what will bring people together to demand a 28th Amendment. Move To Amend supports the We the People Amendment that states money is not speech and corporations are not people.
After Donald Trump ascended to the presidency, despite losing the popular vote by an astounding margin, there just wasn't a lot of cheering to be heard in Whoville. Trump is like The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, with the notable exception that Trump doesn't have a heart, not even one ten sizes too small.
Our mission is to establish authentic, participatory democracy for all people, not corporations. Our first goal is to help build a diverse democracy movement capable of passing the We the People Amendment. The amendment abolishes corporate constitutional rights (corporate personhood) and money as free political speech.
If you're new to Move to Amend, or joining the growing resistance; if you want to do more, but don't know where to start, or if your #1 issue just hit a brick wall built by the corporatized state, we invite you to volunteer with Move to Amend, the Campaign to Legalize Democracy!
There’s no way that the wealthy 1% that our government serves can continue to oppress us if we all stand in solidarity against them. Attending the Democracy Convention in Minneapolis is a crucial piece to attaining a government that works to preserve the freedom and well-being of “We the People.” The conferences and workshops that we will host will impact hundreds.
This August we'll be heading to Minneapolis to take part in the Democracy Convention. This five day event is an opportunity for us to bring in like-minded individuals ready to join the movement and brainstorm real solutions for creating a government that works for its people and not only its corporations.
Help us raise the $25,000 we need to organize the Democratizing the Constitution Conference at the Democracy Convention. Since starting this campaign, we've raised about $1000. We need to raise $24,000 more by July 20.
Please help us make this important event happen and donate today
In August, we'll be heading to Minneapolis for the 3rd national Democracy Convention and we hope you'll join us!
Move to Amend will be leading one of seven conferences at the convention, "Democratizing the Constitution." This conference will include insightful and engaging workshops that will empower people to mobilize their communities and join the movement to amend the Constitution and legalize democracy.
The work that we will accomplish at the Democracy Convention is incredibly important, but we cannot do it without your support.
With the Trump Administration steering the ship of state into turbulent domestic waters and churning up the foreign policy sea, people from many communities have moved into the streets to defend the oppressed, resist inhumane policies, and demand a sustainable future. We the People are right to protest -- it's our country, and we can do a lot better. Protesting is good and building democracy is better.
With seven different conferences under one roof, there's something for everybody interested in democratizing our institutions and building real participatory democracy. Move to Amend is a convening organization as well as the anchor organization for the Democratizing the Constitution Conference, and we need your participation both during and before the convention.

A lot has happened since Move to Amend helped convene the first Democracy Convention in 2011, but one thing hasn't changed--the need for a broad based, strategic, and unified democracy movement. We know you are committed to strengthening democracy where it matters most, and are willing to do the hard work necessary to build and sustain a democratic society organized for the people, by the people. Please join us again for nine conferences under one roof at the third Democracy Convention!
In our continuing our role as a convening organization, Move to Amend will take part in the 2017 Democracy Convention in Minneapolis, August 2 - 6. Register here.
At the very time our nation is in uproar, Move to Amend is uniquely positioned to offer a path forward, a vision of a democratic future based on human rights not corporate profits. Our Campaign to Legalize Democracy is succeeding, whereas the more common and glorified employment schemes masquerading as non-profits get little done.
We're a grassroots organization with a very small, devoted and underpaid staff, and we accomplish a lot! From educating and lobbying public officials, to educating local communities and passing resolutions and ballot initiatives, we have always succeeded--alone or in coalition--all on a shoestring budget.
We're gaining ground quickly and our capacity must grow, too. The more immediate need is simply maintaining current capacity. To meet our budget priorities, we must raise $10,000 by the end of this quarter--in just three days. Please contribute $28 for the 28th Amendment, here.
