Halo Not Required

June 2, 2018

"The better angels of our nature," is not found in scripture; the phrase was coined by Abraham Lincoln in his first inaugural address. The US was on the brink of Civil War then. He was trying to avert hostilities by appealing to our better angels, to take the high road and avoid violence. But it was too late.

It's not too late for your better angels. Move to Amend is just $9,086 short of reaching the $40K challenge pledge, which ends tomorrow at midnightPlease click here to put us over the top.

The Civil War may be over, but civil unrest has been brewing ever since. Military might won the Civil War, not our better angels. Too many unaddressed injustices remain in play today, despite the better angels who guided the abolitionists, the suffragists, and working poor through their struggles against the 1% and unfettered corporate rule.

Their struggle is our struggle, in a world that still easily discriminates based on color, creed, gender, education, economic and social standing. Their struggle is our struggle when making profit is more protected by the Constitution than people are.

Our May Day fundraising appeal brought forward five donors, who pledged up to $40K -- if we can raise the matching sum by midnight on Sunday (HDT). (We thank them for extending the deadline through the weekend to give your better angels a chance to respond.) No contribution is too small--or large! All amounts up to $40K will be matched. Click here to help us raise the remaining $9,086.

Lincoln's War produced three amendments to the Constitution in rather quick succession. The 13th abolished slavery except for convicted criminals, the 14th guaranteed equal protection under the law (for men), and the 15th gave black men the right to vote.

By 1886, corporations were recognized people under the law, with more protection than women, and they continued to gain rights intended for human beings. Corporations currently have more legal rights than you do, and adding insult to injury, corporations don't even have better angels because they're not human beings.

We are summoning the better angels of our nature, and better angels in general! We know you're out there. We see the work you do every day, with compassion, tenacity, and love in your hearts. With real intention, better angels can overcome hate and division, build solidarity, and create the democracy we deserve and need. Click here to double the value of your contribution.

Things do change over time; some for the better, some for the worse, some not at all. It is of interest that the last time the US was as divided as it is today, the Republican President, was actually trying to heal the nation. It's going to take the better angels of this entire nation to overcome what corporations and the 1% have wrought since the Civil War, and it's going to take Move to Amend fighting for and passing the We the People Amendment to free our better angels once and for all.

Don't let the bastards win. Free your better angels! Contribute now and double the value of your donation during the $40K Challenge.

In resistance of the status quo,
