How we will pass the We the People Amendment

December 27, 2015

For the past eighteen months, the national team has been working to produce a strategic plan for amending the U.S. Constitution. The charts below reveal how we expect to pass the We the People Amendment -- in the next 10 years.

We must mobilize people, communities, state legislatures, and Congress…

This is a marathon; not a sprint. Here’s how we win…

We are not a well-financed "inside the beltway" D.C. group with ties to special interests and their checkbooks. We depend on you for our funding.

We still need to raise $85,688 to end 2015 in the black and in a good position to take it to the next level in 2016. If you haven't already, won't you please make an end of the year donation to Move to Amend?

When Move to Amend launched five years ago, we were 12 people with a vision to fulfill the promise of the American experiment in democracy.

Today, we are an organized network of grassroots volunteers, aided by a small and remarkable staff, and have a notable list of accomplishments:

  • The Motion to Amend has reached over 400,000 signatures.

  • We’ve passed hundreds of resolutions and ballot initiatives.

  • We’ve got 58 affiliate groups active in 22 states and more underway.

  • We’re learning skills to enable us to build strong alliances across diverse communities in order to build a movement capable of passing the We the People Amendment, and succeeding.

  • Our amendment has been introduced in Congress—twice—and currently carries 14 cosponsors.

And, with this plan, we have an organizational roadmap that can take us across the finish line!

We are $85,688 short to end 2015 in the black and in a good position to take it to the next level in 2016. Please make an end of the year donation to Move to Amend today!

The draft strategic plan has been shared with our grassroots affiliate leadership for their input, and we're undergoing a feedback process that will go on for several months before affirming the draft at the upcoming Move to Amend Leadership Summit in Washington DC, May 6-9, 2016. (Details to be announced soon.)

We have a written and detailed plan now, but our objectives remain unchanged:

  • Pass the We the People Amendment by 2025

  • Ratify the We the People Amendment by 2027

  • Establish real participatory democracy—ONGOING.

We know this is an ambitious campaign. But it must be done. And we cannot do it without you -- Please make an end of the year donation to Move to Amend today!

We’ve come very far on limited funds and unlimited enthusiasm, yet the hard part still lies ahead. We fully expect to pass the We the People Amendment, but we cannot afford to waste time or money duplicating efforts or missing opportunities. Please contribute today!

For peace and good will,

Daniel Lee, David Cobb, Egberto Willies, George Friday, Jerome Scott, Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, Keyan Bliss, Laura Bonham, Edgar Franks, Virginia Rasmussen

PS -- We know it sounds like a lot, but $85,688 is what's needed before December 31. That's a small price to pay though when you consider the importance of Move to Amend. Won't you please pitch in to help us reach our goal? A huge, enormous, thank you goes out to to everyone who has already donated!
