March for Democracy

December 21, 2017

Manasota Move to Amend and Action Together Suncoast have joined forces to plan a joint action to challenge the growing corporatocracy in our country. The March for Democracy on Saturday, January 20, 2018 will mark the eighth anniversary of Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court and the one year anniversary of the Women’s March on Washington.   This march is being held in solidarity with marches that will be taking place across the country.

Democracy withers when only a tiny percentage of the overall population determines the agenda and sets the rules. Citizenship is cheapened when we’re told that throwing around bundles of cash is simply an exercise in free speech. For almost eight years now we’ve been living in the world Citizens United created, a world where fewer and fewer people have a say, where big money trumps fairness and participation, where the interests and priorities of common people are often ignored. But there is something you can do…. March with us on Saturday, January 20th!  Let’s call for a constitutional amendment that would overturn Citizens United and end corporate personhood.  At the March, we’ll be highlighting how corporate control is impacting decisions being made that affect our environment, our education system, our communication systems, our health care system, and our tax system.
