Message from MoveOn

June 5, 2013

Dear MoveOn member,
Harvey Dosik, a MoveOn member in Santa Cruz, is running a campaign to pass a constitutional amendment stating that corporations are not people and money is not speech—and has requested $1,000 from MoveOn to help take the campaign to the next level.

Here's what Harvey said about it: "It is not easy to amend the U.S. Constitution. It takes a 2/3 vote of each house of Congress and ratification by 3/4 of the states. Our approach is to go over the heads of a deadlocked Congress and make this a citizens' amendment."

Harvey is working to pass a county-wide ballot initiative in 2014 similar to one passed by Mendocino County that will put the citizens of Santa Cruz County on record in support of a constitutional amendment stating that "Corporations are NOT people and Money is NOT speech."

It's a great campaign, but MoveOn gets hundreds of worthy requests like this—and we'll have to turn some of them away unless MoveOn members chip in. So we're looking for folks in your area who'd be willing to make a contribution to help MoveOn support Harvey's campaign. Can you donate $5?

Yes, I'll donate $5.

If you've ever tried to start your own grassroots campaign, you know that fundraising can be really difficult. That's why we've created the MoveOn Opportunity Fund—to provide small grants to help the most promising grassroots campaigns all across the country get off the ground.
Already, we've invested tens of thousands of dollars in member-driven campaigns. And with your support, we can make sure that hundreds of other leaders get the resources they need to win amazing progressive victories on the issues that MoveOn members care about most.

Yes, I'll chip in $5.

Thanks for all you do.
