Move to Amend is on the move again in Mendocino County!

April 18, 2015

We are now combining our efforts on the coast and inland with alternating meetings in Ft. Bragg and Willits.

NEXT MEETINGS: Thursday, April 23 at 2 p.m at the Ft. Bragg Library and Thursday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at the Willits Library.
Call Carrie (937-2554) or Margaret (459-5970) with any questions.

In 2012 Move to Amend Mendocino sponsored Measure F, which passed countywide by 74.71%.  Measure F instructs our Mendocino County elected representatives to work toward an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to firmly establish that only natural persons are entitled to Constitutional Rights and that money is not free speech and political spending can be regulated.  Measure F passed a higher percentage of the vote than any one candidate received, which illustrates the widespread and trans-partisan nature of support for a Constitutional Amendment.

Congressman Jared Huffman responded to Measure F and our lobbying efforts by becoming a co-sponsor of the We the People Amendment introduced in the House of Representatives.  See the text HERE.

Our NEXT STEP is to work with our newly elected representatives at the State level, Assemblymember Jim Wood and State Senator Mike McGuire, to educate them about Move to Amend and our comprehensive approach and to strengthen their commitment of support.  (Wood and McGuire each gave a Yes response to the Move to Amend Pledge to Amend prior to their November 2014 election.)  See the Pledge HERE.

No matter how an Amendment is proposed, by Congress or a Constitutional Convention, it must be ratified by three fourths of the States, so it is critical to educate State legislators.

-Help us develop strategy and prepare for meetings with our representatives and their staff

-Reach out to local officeholders and ask them to take the Pledge as some of them may go on to state office

One of our slogans in Move to Amend is “Movements don’t start in Washington, D.C. – they end there!”  So come join with us in building the grassroots momentum for ending corporate “rights” and reining in out of control political spending!
