What’s it like to be the child of undocumented immigrants in the US and grow up in the shadows of society? Most of the people who write or speak about immigration in the corporate-owned news are not activists or even immigrants themselves, let alone undocumented ones. In fact, many of these pundits spin outrageous lies about the undocumented community and the problems within our immigration system, denying us an accurate perspective about the lives of more than 11 million people and the issues we share with them.

This week, the fight for immigrant rights and racial justice is the focus of the conversation as we talk with the founder of Latino Advocacy, LLC, Maru Mora-Villalpando, an undocumented immigrant from childhood, a college graduate and social worker, who specializes in providing resources to organizations and individuals in the undocumented community. From immigrant rights to for-profit detention centers, Maru offers a first hand account of ongoing oppression against the undocumented community, the growing resistance to immigrant detention centers, and how they are organizing the #Not1More Campaign to end deportation.
