MTA Citizens Initiative on Ballot in Defiance this November

July 11, 2013

Citizens in Defiance, Ohio will have a chance this November to vote on a Move to Amend citizens initiative. The initiative requires the City of Defiance to inform their federal elected officials that the voters of Defiance support a constitutional amendment declaring only human beings, not corporations, are legal persons with constitutional rights and that money is not equivalent to speech.

Defiance Move to Amend activists, led by Occupy Defiance, last year attained the necessary number of valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. A legal glitch, however, prevented the measure from appearing on the November, 2012 ballot.

Area Move to Amend activists pressed their County Board of Elections to retain the petition and place the citizens initiative on this years general election ballot. The Board of Elections on July 1 agreed -- an appropriate decision during the week of Independence Day!

Add Defiance to the growing list of communities Declaring their Independence from Corporate Rule and Big Money in Poltiics!

Congratulations Defiance!
