MTA WESTERN NC AFFILIATE CO-SPONSORS SERIES of ANTI-FRACKING MEETINGS and RALLIES

July 16, 2014

Because of the NC Mining and Energy Commission's intent to explore in WNC Far-Western Counties along the Murphy Basin for hydraulic fracturing, many citizens have attended more than a dozen rallies and meetings (both educational and organizational) to express their outrage. The area -- long recognized nationally for its beauty and visited by thousands of tourists annually -- would not only be damaged economically, its water, property values, etc would also be devastated.

All events are excellent opportunities for educating the public how corporations are directly involved in depleting the natural resources and controlling our governmental bodies. The NC General Assembly's Senate Bill 786 -- lifted the current moratorium on natural gas drilling in the state one week after the bill was filed.-- passing The "Energy Modernization Act" on May 15, one day after the General Assembly convened for the 2014 short session. MTA-Western NC-Sylva members attend with MTA petitions in hand.
