News and Announcements

from Move to Amend

We The People Amendment Gains Momentum in House! Help Us Push the Senate by Writing Your Senator Today!

House Joint Resolution 48 is building momentum in the House of Representatives! Since early September, we've picked up 7 new cosponsors: Reps. Adam Smith (WA), Al Lawson (FL), Mark DeSaulnier (CA), Joseph Kennedy III (MA), Niki Tsongas (MA), Stephen Lynch (MA), Katherine Clark, (MA)!

We now have 51 cosponsors for the We People Amendment in the House in 2017 -- which means we're well ahead of NEXT year's goal of 45 House cosponsors! We could never have done this without the marvelous work of our stupendous supporters and volunteers—folks like you, calling and writing your federal representatives to join this movement! THANK YOU!!

With good news comes bad news, however, as we are falling behind on our strategic goal of introducing the We the People Amendment in the Senate for the first time with up to 5 cosponsors by the end of 2017. Now, it's time to pull out the stops and push our Senators to take action, and we need YOUR help!

Here's what you can do to make this happen:

  • CALL YOUR SENATORS BY PHONE and urge them to introduce a Senate companion bill to House Joint Resolution 48! Click here to get their phone numbers.
  • WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR of your local newspaper and ask your Senators BY NAME to introduce the companion bill to HJR 48. Senators definitely pay attention when their name shows up in the paper. If you're willing to do this task, please sign up here and we'll send you information to get started!
  • MAKE A DONATION to help us keep the pressure on with in-person lobby visits! National Director Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap will be in Washington D.C. this month to follow up on the meetings our volunteers held with their Senators during the August. We won't let up until we reach our 2017 goal!

October is here, so we don't have much more time left to capitalize on this critical moment. But we won't let up until we reach our 2017 goal! Talk with your Senators TODAY and tell them to join over 440,000 people who want them to sponsor the We the People Amendment!

Want to take action? Send a message to your representative and senators to sign on to House Joint Resolution 48 -- the We The People Amendment!

Send your Senator a message today: introduce the We the People Amendment!

Send your House Representative a message today: co-sponsor H.J.R. 48, the We the People Amendment!

We give our heart-felt thanks to our newest co-sponsors and all the democracy champions who have already co-sponsored the We the People Amendment! Share your appreciation by sending them a thank you message!

Calling All Creative Thinkers: Join Move to Amend's Arts & Culture Caucus!

October is that time of year when community events and other holiday celebrations start happening a lot more often. This means there are plenty of opportunities for artists and cultural workers to make an even bigger impact in social change.

That’s why we are committed to maintaining an Arts & Culture Caucus. Art tells truths, frames history, sets norms, reflects a current moment, and is a voice of We The People. As corporate control threatens our health, safety, sovereignty, and communities, it threatens our culture. Move To Amend has a large base of supporters who are interested in creative activism. There are dancers, musicians, painters, graphic artists, choreographers, poets, emcees, cartoonists, playwrights, singers, authors, and artists of all kinds doing work to resist and make change.

Move To Amend's Arts and Culture caucus captures the creativity and talent that we have seen in our supporters, and to build a network of artists and cultural workers who feel strongly that corporate control has co-opted our culture, and want to do something about it.

We must take a stand against the corporatization of Art and Culture and we need your help!

Trick or Treat! Host Your Own Houseparty with Move to Amend!

This October, we invite you to host a Move to Amend Houseparty for Halloween (or any other day)!

Houseparties are fun way to inform others about corporate personhood and big money in politics and raise funds and support for Move to Amend. You can even include yummy treats like a Move to Amend chocolate covered strawberries and fun activities like a Money Man costume competition!

During the party, you’ll get to mingle with guests and get to know like-minded people; eat delicious snacks -- you can even show and discuss our Legalize Democracy film.

We’ll provide you with all the Move to Amend materials that you need to host the party. We’ll also equip you with skills and resources, including a houseparty webinar, to help you plan for your party.

Houseparties play an incredibly important role for Move to Amend. The funds raised certainly help us accomplish the goals laid out in our strategic plan, but that’s only a fraction of why houseparties are so important.

Houseparties are opportunities for you to hold genuine and meaningful conversations about corporate personhood. It’s a chance for you to share up front and in person about why this issue is such a huge threat to our democracy, and why you care about it.

Your relationship with your family and friends gives you the unique ability to bring the movement to amend to your personal community in a way they can relate to.

Add Move To Amend's Essential Materials to Your Table at Your Next Event!

If you've been keeping up with our Facebook or Instagram, you might have seen our photos and videos from Move to Amend's tour with American rock band, Spoon! Amazing volunteers from all over the country have been tabling their concerts, handing out Move To Amend swag, and gathering petition signatures to grow the movement amend the Constitution.

Hundreds of concert-goers will be passing by our tables at upcoming concerts, taking buttons and bumperstickers to help raise awareness wherever they go, and taking turns stamping their dollar bills with phrases like "Corporations Are Not People, Money is Not Speech." These are essential items for tabling at events and are guaranteed to get people excited about the movement to amend the Constitution.

Regardless of whether you're tabling or not, sharing materials like buttons, stickers, and money stamps are a great way for anyone to spread the word about corporate rule and the movement to make real the promise of democracy!

➤➤ Order your tabling essentials and other cool gear!
