The Lucas County Board of Elections has certified that Toledo voters will get a chance to weigh in on the issue of corporate personhood on Tuesday, March 15.
A press conference will be held the morning of Thursday, January 21st, at 10am in the lobby of One Government Center. Doug Jambard-Sweet, campaign manager of the effort, will provide details on the initiative.
The date marks the six-year anniversary of the Supreme Court's Citizens United vs. FEC decision - an historic ruling which removed many restrictions on special interests seeking to influence political elections.
Corporate personhood is the legal theory that business entities should be granted the same legal protections as human beings - up to and including the possession of Constitutional rights.
Move To Amend is a national organization dedicated to passing an amendment to the US Constitution declaring that corporations are not people and political donations are not a free speech matter.
