On the Road to the US Social Forum 2015

March 5, 2015

Since our inception, Move to Amenders have done remarkable work passing resolutions and ballot initiatives. Our awesome local affiliate groups have a perfect record of victories: every time we try, we win — by large margins. It’s clear our strategy is working, and it is in large part thanks to you!

It’s time we take it to the next level. Please contribute generously!

To succeed in passing the We the People Amendment, our strategy includes building a multi-racial, multi-generational, intersectional, diverse democracy movement

Your support has helped Move to Amend offer trainings and workshops at important conferences and gatherings over the past five years so that we can link the need for a Constitutional amendment to all of the other issues people are struggling to fix. There’s some serious action going on.

It’s time we take it to the next level. Please contribute generously!

The third US Social Forum (USSF) will take place this summer, and we invite you to join us. Please register by clicking here.

Move to Amend will certainly be in the house! In fact, we helped build the house. Board members Jerome Scott, George Friday, and David Cobb have been active members of the USSF 2015 planning committee.

The USSF is the premier gathering place for social justice advocates and change-agents to converge. Previous meetings in Atlanta (2007) and Detroit (2010) drew over 10,000 participants at each location.

The USSF is more than an event, it is a movement building process led by poor people, people of color, immigrants, women, LGBT people -- the people and organizations on the very front lines of struggle to make real the promise of U.S. democracy. The USSF provides a space for justice and democracy to combine, a foundation from which we can build a true democracy movement. Opportunities for education, networking, and coalition building are everywhere you turn.

We are taking it to the next level. Please contribute generously!

Actually, Move to Amend will be in three houses. USSF 2015 is a polycentric convergence, meaning it will take place in three locations: San Jose, California; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Jackson, Mississippi. We are dispatching a team of organizers to each event to hold workshops on why we need a Constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood and big money in politics.

And we're thrilled to be working in coalition with several other organizations to hold a "Peoples Movement Assembly" in each city, on the question: “What does a democratic Constitution look like?”

In addition, each gathering will be linked via video-conferencing and live-streamed.The potential to reach a hundred thousand people is real.

But it won’t be cheap. We’ll try to find host housing, but there will undoubtedly be some hotel bills, the food and cost of travel for 12 people, along with the print-outs, materials, and equipment needed at each location. We need to raise $15,000 to completely cover these expenses without dipping into our general fund.

Please contribute $250 (or more!) if you can. We will gratefully accept any amount you can afford -- $10, $25, $50, or $100, or whatever you can do. It all helps us take this show on the road. Please donate now.

We can’t agree more with the USSF motto:

Another world is possible; another US is necessary.

The USSF is an offspring of the World Social Forum, which provides people with the knowledge and tools they need to democratically challenge policies that enshrine corporate rule. Please contribute whatever you can afford today to help us reach the USSF audience with our message -- and by all means try your best to attend USSF 2015! We want you with us; register here!
