The Road We Travel: A Message from Thom Hartmann

December 17, 2014

Dear friends,

The great tennis player Arthur Ashe said, “Success is a journey, not a destination.” And, I keep that in mind every day. I’m really lucky because I’ve enjoyed success in my life and career. Still, I never rest because there’s so much important work left to be done. It’s the work that propelled my success in the first place, and the journey is yet to end.

Along the way, I have met incredible people, ordinary people with the guts and sense to challenge the status quo. We walk together. Please fuel our journey by making an end of the year donation to support Move to Amend!

When I was conducting research for my book, Unequal Protection: The Rise of Corporate Dominance and the Theft of Human Rights, I met several of the Move to Amend founders. I was impressed by their work to build a democracy movement and moved by their demand:

“To make real the promise of a vibrant, democratic society rooted in social and economic justice that is genuinely representative and accountable to the people and not corporate interests.”

We started walking together. From that point forward, my admiration grew for Move to Amend and your string of successes. What looked to be a near impossibility five years ago has become a real possibility thanks to this great organization of committed volunteers, grassroots donors, and your tiny staff.

Hundred of thousands of you are walking with us! It’s mind-blowing! Please fuel our journey by making an end of the year donation to support Move to Amend.

It’s been exhilarating watching Move to Amend grow so quickly. This is not an easy environment for social, economic, and environmental justice organizers, let alone an organization bent on ending corporate rule. Yet you have managed to pull off win after win, including 39 ballot initiatives this year, for a grand total of over 250 initiatives and more than 500 resolutions passed all together.

Community after community, red, blue, green, and in-between are on the journey. And, we walk together. Please fuel our journey by making an end of the year donation to support Move to Amend

Not only are we walking together, we are learning together. You are not afraid to do the deep analysis necessary to win. From the history of corporate personhood, to the means for grassroots organizing and movement building, the Move to Amend website is a treasure trove of information. It contains the tools and resources necessary to build a broad and deep democracy movement capable of winning the “We the People Amendment”, and so much more.

And your commitment to building a diverse and multi-racial democracy movement is very necessary in a country with communities overrun by state violence along racial lines. I’m proud to walk with you.

The amazing thing is that all this is accomplished on a shoestring budget. Folks are always surprised to learn how far Move to Amend can stretch a dime!

So I am asking you to walk a little further with me, and make a year-end contribution to Move to Amend. Will you dig deep and donate toward the 28th Amendment this holiday season?

Your gift means we can keep walking together. You can help keep the work moving forward to support the growing number of Move to Amend local groups. You can help us maintain a vibrant website, database and organizing tools, and take Move to Amend to the next level. You can ensure that the Pledge to Amend campaign becomes a robust and effective electoral tool.

You have the power to make real the promise of democracy for yourself and your children with your donation of $10, $50, $500, $5000 or whatever you can give – every bit makes a difference.

Let’s make sure our journey does not end because of a lack of funds. Move to Amend needs to raise $100,000 by December 31st. Please support the movement to amend the Constitution today by making a year-end donation.

I hope to walk with you until we reach our destination. Our long journey will be made shorter as long as it is well fueled. Let’s dig deep and give to ourselves, the nation, and the world a gift of lasting importance: a real and vibrant democracy!

I hope the holidays bring you great joy,

Thom Hartmann

P.S. We can’t have peace until we have justice. We can’t have justice until we end corporate rule. Please give the gift of democracy this year! The first 25 people who donate $500 or more will receive a signed copy of my book, Unequal Protection.
