Making changes to your recurring donation

To make changes online to your existing recurring donation subscription, we'll need to know which of our two funds you'll want your donations to go to going forward. Please choose one of the following two options (why do I have to choose?):

  • NOT tax deductible (Move to Amend): If you want your donations to fund Move to Amend's lobbying and advocacy efforts and you don’t need them to be tax-deductible, you can make changes to your recurring donation account by clicking here.
  • Tax-deductible (Move to Amend Education Fund): If you do want your donations to be tax deductible, you can make changes to your recurring donation account by clicking here. The Move to Amend Education Fund is fiscally sponsored by Democracy Unlimited and it funds public education work around the influence of money and corporate power on democracy.

If we emailed you a link to this page asking you to update your credit card information, our email includes which fund your existing recurring donation is for.

We deeply appreciate your support for either fund, but if you don’t plan to deduct your gifts on your tax return, we ask that you consider donating to Move to Amend directly, to give us the most flexibility to use your donation for our lobbying and advocacy efforts.

Questions? Visit our Donation Support Page, or contact Paul, our Financial Administrator, at donations [at] movetoamend.org or 707-616-0501. (Paul works part-time, so he's not always reachable by phone, but he checks email and voicemail throughout the week)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

DO YOU WANT YOUR RECURRING DONATION TO HAVE MORE IMPACT?

If you're a recurring donor to our 501(c)3 arm, the Move to Amend Education Fund, you can more directly fuel the movement to amend by switching your donations over to our new 501(c)4 arm.

As you may know, Move to Amend originally operated as a 501(c)3 organization, but in late-2014, we also formed a 501(c)4 to allow us greater flexibility for advocacy and lobbying and to launch our Pledge to Amend campaign which allows candidates for office to pledge to support our amendment.

If you started a recurring donation before the 501(c)4 was formed, your donations remain tax-deductible and support our 501(c)3 arm, now called the Move to Amend Education Fund. If that’s where you need to contribute because you write the donations off your taxes, it’s no problem to keep it that way (and it’s much appreciated!). If you take no action, your donations will remain tax-deductible.

However, if you’re in a position to switch your donations to the 501(c)4, doing so will mean you’ll be funding the full scope of our work and more directly supporting the passage of our amendment.

Click here to switch your donations to the Move to Amend 501(c)4.

We deeply appreciate your support for either fund, but if you don’t plan to deduct your gifts on your tax return, we ask that you consider donating to Move to Amend directly, to give us the most flexibility to use your donation for our lobbying and advocacy efforts.

Why do I have to choose which fund to donate to? (return to top of page)

Our system does not support the ability of donors to directly access their own recurring donation data. We instead have a secure system you can use to send us the changes you want to make, but we'll then need to manually enter the changes into your donation account. To do that, we'll need to know WHICH fund you wish to donate to so that the information you submit will be sent to the correct merchant account.

In December 2014, Move to Amend, in effect, split into two separate organizations. At that time, we launched a new 501(c)4 organization (called Move to Amend). The organization previously known as Move to Amend, a 501(c)3, became the Move to Amend Education Fund. The new 501(c)4 is now the primary organization working toward the We The People Amendment. Recurring donations that were started before we launched the 501(c)4 are still applied to the old 501(c)3, the MTA Education Fund.

(More information about how the two organizations work together can be found here).

Most people want to directly support the 501(c)4's lobbying and advocacy work to amend the Constitution, rather than the public education work of the 501(c)3 (unless they're looking to deduct their donations on their tax returns).

For this reason, we make sure donors know when they update their recurring donations that they have this choice. Because the two funds are run by separate organizations, there needs to be two separate donation forms, which you choose between based on which fund you want to donate to. It seems a bit complicated, but to simplify these details, we usually just boil it all down to the question of whether or not you want your gifts to be tax-deductible. Please pick one of the following two options to submit any changes to your recurring donation:

  • NOT tax deductible (Move to Amend): If you want your donations to fund Move to Amend's lobbying and advocacy efforts and you don’t need them to be tax-deductible, you can make changes to your recurring donation account by clicking here. not be tax-deductible.

We deeply appreciate your support for either fund, but if you don’t plan to deduct your gifts on your tax return, we ask that you consider donating to Move to Amend directly, to give us the most flexibility to use your donation for our lobbying and advocacy efforts.
