The Ventura County Board of Supervisors took a stand Tuesday in favor of a constitutional amendment that would reverse the U.S. Supreme Court decision lifting caps on independent political expenditures by corporations and unions.

Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, decided by a 5-4 Supreme Court vote in 2010, overturned parts of federal campaign finance laws, including the 2002 McCain-Feingold Act.

It also forced some states and local jurisdictions, including the Board of Supervisors, to make campaign-finance laws friendlier to corporations, unions and other independent groups that spend money in local and state races.
