WCRD Represented at Harrisburg Summit

March 5, 2016

Members of Wayne Citizens Supporting Democracy, the Honesdale affiliate of the national coalition Move To Amend (MTA), gave a presentation on building democracy and facing the problems of corporate power at the Harrisburg Keystone Progress Summit on Saturday, Feb 20.

Katharine Dodge of Lake Ariel and Beverly Beers of Dyberry Township joined Virginia Rasmussen of Alfred NY in presenting the workshop.  The Keystone Summit included over 30 presentations and was well attended by individuals from across the state.

They stressed amending the U.S. Constitution to ensure that money does not dominate our democratic political process and that corporations are not considered having the same rights as persons under the Constitution. A long series of Supreme Court decisions have given corporations more and more control over government, leaving the people out.

Wayne Citizens Supporting Democracy was established in 2013 and joined the national coalition in 2014. It is one of 49 MTA affiliates throughout the nation. It meets on the first Tuesday of every month in the Wayne County Public Library in Honesdale at 5.15 P.M. All are welcome to attend. Those interested in knowing more about the proposed "We the People Amendment" language and signing the petition to amend the Constitution may visit movetoamend.org.
