ACTION:  Join us for “Free the People from Corporate Rule” campaign on May 28.  Email minnesota [at] movetoamend.orgif interested in participating in our action at Representatives Craig, Phillips and Stauber’s offices to get them to come on as cosponsors.

Click for links to their contact information.

Message to Representative Craig: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents.  I am concerned about the influence that outside and undisclosed money has on our elections.  I am concerned that big corporations and unions have more influence through their money than human beings do.  Therefore I support the We the People Amendment bill (HJR48) introduced by Representative Pramila Jayapal. Thank you for making the following pledge.

I support amending the U.S. Constitution to make clear that corporations and other artificial entities do not have Constitutional rights and that money is not speech and campaign spending should be limited through regulation.

I will use my office to support the Movement to Amend the Constitution by passing resolutions, proposing legislation, and publicly speaking out about the need for this Amendment.

Please become a cosponsor of HJR48 to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Message to Representative Phillips: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents.  I am concerned about the influence that outside and undisclosed money has on our elections.  I am concerned that big corporations and unions have more influence through their money than human beings do through their voices.

Message to Representatives Petersen, Hagedorn, Emmer and Stauber: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents.  I am concerned about the influence that outside and undisclosed money has on our elections.  I am concerned that big corporations and unions have more influence through their money than human beings do through their voices.  Therefore I support the We the People Amendment bill. Please cosponsor HJR48.

Then there are our senators -

Please ask Senators Klobuchar and Smith to champion a bill in the US Senate similar to HJR48 (We the People Amendment bill) in the House.

Message to US Senators Klobuchar and Smith: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents.  I am concerned about democracy and the influence that outside and undisclosed money has on our elections.  I am concerned that big corporations and unions have more influence through their money than human beings do through their voices.  Please introduce the companion bill to HJR48, the We the People Amendment bill, to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Big Thank Yous to:

McCollum is first cosponsor again!  Thank her.

We the People bill Introduced:

HF2701 in MN House; SF2038 in MN Senate

WHY is it urgent to get your representative & senator to cosponsor HF2701 & SF2038 before the 2019 session ends?

This first year of the 2019-20 biennium, our two We the People bills were introduced in the Minnesota legislature--but timing and legislative conditions have not been ideal for a committee hearing for either one.

However the more cosponsors we can recruit for Representative Dehn’s HF2701 and for Senator Marty’s SF2038 before this session is over, the stronger their chances for passage will be next January in the second year of the biennium. It’s that simple.

Long-standing experience from activist movements, tells us that when your cause builds momentum, show visible mounting support, it gains an edge. This could not be truer with our two MN bills.

MN Move to Amend can tell every member of the legislature how many of our petition signers there are throughout the state, or in their own districts--but just as important is for legislators to see how many of their colleagues have cosponsored the bills

This is why it is critical for you to help us get as many cosponsors as possible.  The more constituents they hear from, the more your representatives and senators listen. And are likely to act to become the next cosponsor of our bills.

ACTION:  Constituents make a call or send an email if your state representative or and your state senator is not a cosponsor,  Ask them to cosponsor HF 2701 (House); SF2038 (Senate).

ACTION:  Thank Senators Marty, Clausen, Carlson and Hawj.  Thank Representatives Dehn and also Rick Hansen!

So we urge you to do two simple things:

1.  Check the status of each bill here, and find its current co-sponsors:

HF2701(look under “Authors”)

SF2038(look under “Authors”)

2.  If your MN representative or senator’s name is NOT already on the bills, please follow the directions under We the People Bill Introducedabove.

Find contact info here.

Deliver this message:

Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents.  I am concerned about democracy and the influence that outside and undisclosed money has on our elections.  I am concerned that big corporations and unions have more influence through their money than human beings do.  Please cosponsor the SF2038 (HF2701), We the People bill, to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Thanks for your help in making sure that the MN legislature hears from us big-time in 2020!

Spread the Word;  Don’t Let Democracy Slip Away

“We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.” Louis D. Brandeis, former Supreme Court Justice.

Any movement starts with people voicing their concern, making a commitment and joining other similarly concerned neighbors.

We have Move to Amenders in every House and Senate District in Minnesota which demonstrates the widespread concern people have about our democracy.   You can help us double the number by asking people in your community to sign the petition.

There are 3 ways people can sign the petition that says –

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

ACTION:

1)   Text AMEND to 38470
2)   Sign the petition online at movetoamend.org
3)   Print this formand get 4 people to sign the petition.

You can help gather signatures in support of the petition statement.  It is the best way to educate the public. Community festivals, political rallies, farmers' markets, grocery stores, film screenings, picnics of local organizations, and other local events can provide good opportunities for outreach.
