Minnesota State Fair
Volunteer for a Shift in our Booth
ACTION: Sign up for a shift at Minnesota State Fair
This year we are partnering with the AFL-CIO and SEIU to staff the State Fair booth. Minnesota Move to Amend State Network is staffing the booth on alternate days of the fair (see the dates below). MN Move to Amend supporters who volunteer for a shift can request reimbursement for their admission fee that day if they wish.
This does not require in-depth knowledge as volunteers will be working with seasoned leaders. It would be a great opportunity to learn more about why our democracy is not working for real people and what we are doing about it.
Please email minnesota [at] movetoamend.org if you would like to sign up for a shift or learn more about this great volunteer opportunity. Include your phone number in that email.

Amendment on a Stick
For State Fair Goers
This is one item “on a stick” that will actually be good for you and for our democracy!
ACTION: Fairgoers are invited to weigh in on hot political topics during their visit to the Minnesota State House and Senate booths. Stop by to leave this message for your Representative and Senator
The Minnesota legislature must call on Congress to adopt the following language for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution:
- Rights protected under the Constitution are the rights of natural person and not the rights of artificial entities and
- Money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
Please champion HF2701 (MN House) and SF2038 (MN Senate). Make Minnesota the 20th state to make this request of Congress.
If you want to get creative, print the message out and glue it to a popsicle stick. Both booths are in the Education Building, located on Cosgrove Street, just north of Dan Patch Avenue.
We need a U.S. Constitutional Amendment with BOTH points more than ever.
Enjoy the Great Minnesota Get-Together!

We the People bill Introduced in Minnesota Legislature
ACTION: Ask your Minnesota State Representative and Senator to cosponsor the We the People bill.
In the first session of the 2019-20 biennium, MN Move to Amend's We the People bill was introduced in the Minnesota Senate and House, with the two lead sponsors it has had in the past: SF2038 by Senator John Marty, and HF2701 by Representative Raymond Dehn.
For either or both of these bills to make progress in the second legislative session starting in January, they need all the co-sponsors that we can recruit. The best place to start recruiting is with senators and representatives who have either taken the Pledge to Amend or have already co-sponsored a past version of the same bills.
You can help us recruit from this list of “best bet” senators and representatives by sending them a short email or making a phone call to their offices. If you contact them as one of their constituents, please follow up by letting us know at minnesota [at] movetoamend.org. Thank you in advance!
Dear Senator _______________,
In the past you have “Pledged to Amend” or co-sponsored a previous version of Minnesota Move to Amend's We the People bill, which directs that Congress draft an amendment to curb big money in politics and corporate “rights” under the U.S. Constitution.
As one of your constituents, and a proud member of Move to Amend myself, I urge you to co-sponsor the current version of this bill in the MN Senate, SF2038. You can contact lead sponsor John Marty's office about signing on as a co-sponsor when the legislative session begins.

HJR48 (We the People Amendment bill) Introduced in US Congress
ACTION: Thank Representatives McCollum, Omar, Craig and Phillips. Ask Rep Stauber, Peterson, Emmer, Hagedorn to become cosponsors.

- Message to Representative McCollum: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents and am so pleased that you have again cosponsored the We the People Amendment bill (HJR48). I’m pleased you are the first cosponsor named. Thank you!
- Message to Representatives Omar, Craig, Phillips: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents. I learned that you have become a cosponsor of HJR48, the We the People Amendment bill. Thank so much.
- Message to Representatives Petersen, Hagedorn, Emmer and Stauber: Hello, I’m ____, one of your constituents. I am concerned about the influence that outside and undisclosed money has on our elections. I am concerned that big corporations and unions have more influence through their money than human beings do through their voices. Therefore I support the We the People Amendment bill. Please cosponsor HJR48.

Make It Known - Democracy is a Moral Imperative
“We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.” Louis D. Brandeis, former Supreme Court Justice.
Any movement starts with people voicing their concern, making a commitment and joining other similarly concerned neighbors.
We have Move to Amenders in every House and Senate District in Minnesota which demonstrates the widespread concern people have about our democracy. You can help us double the number by asking people in your community to sign the petition.
There are 3 ways people can sign the petition that says –
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
You can help gather signatures in support of the petition statement. It is the best way to educate the public. Community festivals, political rallies, farmers' markets, grocery stores, film screenings, picnics of local organizations, and other local events can provide good opportunities for outreach.
