Members of Brainerd Lakes Move to Amend conducted October listening sessions with area residents. Here are the results. Seventy-one percent of those contacted indicated that corporations affect them negatively. Seventy-six percent said that corporations are preventing solutions to our nation's problems. Thirty-three percent signed the petition: "We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights."

Over 440,000 people have signed the petition nationwide for a 28th amendment to limit the influence of corporate money and corporations, including 13,000 in Minnesota. Fifty-one House members have signed on as co-sponsors of a 28th amendment. Move To Amend is working to get U.S. senators on board, including Minnesota's Klobuchar and Franken.

Adding an amendment to the Constitution is difficult, but momentum is building at the grassroots level, in many states and in Congress!
