Northeast Philly for Peace and Justice is an organization of Northeast Philadelphia citizens that call our government to end the occupation of Iraq, bring home all U.S. soldiers and contractors, contribute to a process of reconstruction and reconciliation led by the Iraqi people, and redirect billions of dollars from war to meeting urgent needs here at home. We are clergy, office workers, health care professionals, educators, social workers, students, and retirees. We formed in January 2003 when it became clear that President Bush was building momentum for an invasion of Iraq. Since then, we have organized community forums, held more than 30 peace vigils, and participated in regional protests of the war in Iraq. We have met with Rep. Allyson Schwartz and presented her with more than 6,500 petitions to calling on her to stop the funding for war.
