ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) “We the People” is the beginning of the United States Constitution and it’s also the rallying cry for a coalition hoping to pass a 28th amendment.

The “Move to Amend” coalition introduced House Joint Resolution 48 in January of 2017, in hopes to end corporate rule.

The movement started in California to end corporate person-hood, which they believe gives corporations rights solely intended for human beings.

Members of Brainerd Lakes Move to Amend conducted October listening sessions with area residents. Here are the results. Seventy-one percent of those contacted indicated that corporations affect them negatively. Seventy-six percent said that corporations are preventing solutions to our nation's problems. Thirty-three percent signed the petition: "We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S.

Since the "Citizens United vs. Federal Election" Supreme Court decision in 2010, corporations have gained more influence in our elections, legislative process, and in our everyday lives. This decision granted constitutional rights to corporations as "persons," and makes money a form of "political" free speech.
